I am a Master’s-level student of social work at George Mason University, under the supervision of Charlene Van Nest, LCSW-C, offering services to the adolescent and adult populations. I believe in a holistic therapeutic approach, encompassing aspects of CBT, ACT, Somatic awareness, and psychodynamic therapy. As a veteran spouse, I have a passion for serving the active-duty and veteran communities.
Professional Experience
I have a background in the intersection of social services, policy, and mental health, bringing a multi-disciplinary approach to individual therapy.
I am currently a Peer Leader serving with the Veteran Spouse Network. I also provide mindfulness and wellness counseling to the veteran and active-duty populations and advocate for healthcare improvement changes for the veteran population. I have worked with crisis intervention and assisted at domestic violence shelters.
I am trained in CBT, Trauma Therapy, ACT, Veteran and Military Mental Health, and Somatic Therapy. I am currently working toward a Child-Centered Play Therapy Certification. I am CALM and MHFA certified, as well as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.
I am empathetic and believe in meeting my clients where they are, focusing on creating realistic goals and creating a welcoming environment (even through Telehealth). I try to bring humor and warmth into my sessions, providing compassion and understanding. As a C-IAYT, I often integrate breathing and mindfulness into client plans. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally.
Life Outside the Office
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband (a former Navy Corpsman), two amazing kids, and two dogs. I like to stay busy by hiking, running, exploring new places, reading, sketching, teaching yoga, web design, baking, and finding unexpected objects in dusty antique shops.
Lauren started her year-long practicum at Waypoint this past spring. She provides only telehealth services and is an out-of-network provider. Please inquire about services at a reduced rate.
