I am a registered Psychology Associate working under the supervision of Dr. Tana Clarke as well as a Maryland Certified and Nationally Certified School Psychologist. I am fluent in Spanish as well as English and have worked in a variety of settings and capacities in supporting families with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In my practice, I incorporate a strengths-based, whole-person, and systems approach to supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I use a variety of strategies and skill-building through the use of a variety of models including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused counseling, mindfulness and meditation, coaching, and building self-awareness and capacity for growth. I have experience working with neurodiverse children and adolescents as well as those with a variety of educational, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. I find purpose in advocating for and empowering children and families through education and skill-building.
Professional Experience
I obtained my undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Spanish Language. Afterwards, I received a Master of Education at the University of California Santa Barbara in the Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology Program with an emphasis in School Psychology. I completed my internship in Prince George’s County Public Schools before working as a bilingual school psychologist in multiple counties in Maryland and serving as the Secretary on the board of the Maryland School Psychologist Association (MSPA) for four years.
As a school psychologist, I have had the opportunity to work with children, families, educators across the state, local agencies, nonprofit programs, and health practitioners. I have had 14 years of experience in evaluating the needs of children and adolescents through comprehensive evaluation of social-emotional, cognitive processing, behavioral, and academic functioning. I also have extensive experience working with school teams to identify interventions, use data-based decision-making to evaluate progress, and incorporate programs to support students, families, and educators.
Life Outside the Office
I grew up here in Maryland and, despite a short time living in California, have always considered this area to be my home. When I’m not working, I love reading, doing yoga and strength training, exploring the outdoors, and finding new recipes to cook at home with my husband. I work hard to find a balance between my professional life and my role of mother to two young boys and one silly standard poodle.
Laura works out of our Severna Park and Annapolis offices. She has after-school and weekend hours and is an out of network provider.
