Allyson Kett

I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland and Delaware and co-founder of Waypoint Wellness Center. I work with children, adolescents, adults and families with a range of presenting problems with various levels of severity, including but not limited to anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, Separation Anxiety Disorder, OCD, and various behavioral problems and adjustment disorders. I try to meet my clients’ needs by assessing where they are in their readiness for change. I primarily use an integrative approach to psychotherapy with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral theory and family systems theory. I value collaboration with other professionals and families to provide the best care for my clients.

Over my 15 years working in private practice, I have come to find that Anne Arundel County has many multi-talented children and teenagers. During my work with children/adolescents focusing on mental and emotional health, it became natural to also address their struggles, stress, and pressures related to their performances in academics, athletics, arts, etc. Combined with watching my own daughters’ journeys in competitive sports, I became highly motivated to focus on the mental health of athletes and my interest in sport psychology and athletic performance grew. The pressures continue to grow with athletic clubs/programs requiring significant commitments year round on top of the already high level of school responsibilities and stressors that these children face. The pressure to do it all and be the best at everything can lead to anxiety and depression. Add in sport injuries and set backs, the life of a student athlete is not easy and can be one of many hurdles and stressors. I strive to support student athletes through the struggles that inevitably occur and teach them positive coping skills and strategies for enhanced performance.

Professional Experience

I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including private practice, university counseling centers, inpatient psychiatric facilities, community mental health centers, and school settings. I have held adjunct faculty positions and supervisory roles at Loyola University in Baltimore and Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington DC. My undergraduate work was completed at the College of William and Mary and I hold a Masters in Psychology in Education from Columbia University and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Children and Families from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. I am co-author and co-editor of books focused on integrating psychological principles and research into the field of educational development.

Life Outside the Office

I am married with two young children in Anne Arundel County. I love photography, traveling, and spending time with my wonderful friends, family, and golden doodle, Gracie. I do my best to prioritize “me time” and live by example for my patients. This translates to taking a barre class, eating healthy (or trying to eat healthy), spending time with new and old friends, and relaxing with a cup of coffee on my porch (when weather permits).
